My Thoughts On August 1st Protest! By Mohammed Sahnun Idris, Say No To Protest.
PROTEST
LESSON SHOULD BE TAKEN FROM THE ENDSARS PROTEST IN NIGERIA (WE ADVISE FOR DIALOGUE AND OPEN CONSULTATION WITH GOVERNMENT)
#EndSARSThe #EndSARS protests,
which started in October 2020 in
Nigeria, have resulted in economic
losses amounting to 200 billion NGN
(486.4 million USD).
Nigerian insurers have paid 9
billion NGN (21.89 million USD)
for the damages caused by the
protests. According to the Nigerian
Insurance Association (NIA), the
cost of insured losses could reach 20
billion NGN (48.64 million USD).
The reported losses concern cases of
vandalism, looting, theft, business int-
erruption, burglary and fire.
We are against it.
Therefore, Peace and Harmony are the basic requirement of any nation. The
citizens of a country feel safe and
secure and can prosper only if a
peaceful environment is maintained.
While Nigerians are largely enjoying
a peaceful environment, however, the
peace and harmony of the country is
disrupted many times owing to
various factors.
The Non violent Peace Initiative
(NPI) strongly condemns the planned
protest scheduled for August 2024.
We believe that at this critical juncture
in our nation's history, unity and const-
ructive dialogue are paramount to achi-
eving lasting progress and security.
The recent announcement by the Fed-
eral Government to commence the res-
tructuring of the country is asigni-
ficant step in the right direction. This
move demonstrates a genuine commi-
tment to addressing long standing issues
that have hindered our national devel-
opment and security. We commend
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR
and his administration for their dedic-
ation to this cause and their willi-
ngness to implement necessary
reforms.
The issues facing the Nigerian
economic-which includes inflation,
climate change and war is a global
challenge, every country in world is
facing.
We will not ignore the promises
made by the federal government to
enhance governance, promote equi-
table resource distribution, and ensure
that every state of our great nation ben-
efits from our collective wealth. By
focusing on devolution of powers, fis-
cal federalism, and addressing regional
disparities, the government is laying a
strong foundation for a more prosp-
erous and secure Nigeria.
The Federal Government is really ser-
ious, especially in its plight of trying
to alleviate the sufferings ofthe
common-man who is strolling, begging
for food on Nigerian streets and series
of the initiatives adopted by the Pres-
ident Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s adminis-
trations’ agenda.
We understand that protests can be a
vital tool for expressing grievances in a
democratic society. However,we urge
all Nigerians, especially our vibrant
youth, to prioritize dialogue and peac-
eful engagement over actions that
could potentially destabilize our nation.
We believe that through constructive
collaboration with the government, we
can achieve more sustainable solutions
to our challenges.
NPI remains committed to support
every single peace manner in the cou-
ntry and the government efforts to rest-
ructure the nation. We will continue to
advocate for peace, unity and promote
security, safety, and prosperity for all
Nigerians. We call on all stakeholders,
including civil society organizations,
community leaders, and citizens, to
join hands in this transformative jou-
rney.
oh Allah Salvage Nigeria and Nige-
rians from these Economic Hardships;
Endow our Leaders with the wisdom
of good governance with You filling
their hearts with Your fear, humility
and love for their country. our Lord
keep Nigeria as a Unique United State
in Peace, Prosperity and Progress for-
ever and ever.
Sincerely yours
Ambassador (Sheikh)
Mohammed Sahnun Idris, SEIPN,
